A Little Princess Again: Introduction

Hello! Introducing my first novella, A little Princess Again, which I shall publish here in parts á la 19th century London magazine serials. The book it follows, A Little Princess by Francis Hodgson Burnett, was first published as a short story in 1888. Y'all are my first outside eyes. Story still in a bit chaotic form so significant edits may be made. 😄

Character reminders:

Sara - main character, born in India, mom died, raised by dad, sent to boarding school in London, goes from very rich to poor when her father dies, but she tries to behave kindly and generously, like a little princess,no matter what. At the end of the book she is found by her father's dearest friend and her fortunes are reversed again.

Ermie - Sara's best friend, doesn't like books so Sara reads the ones sent to her and tells her the stories, has an aunt who sends her care packages and an academic father who wants her to be bookish

Lottie - Sara becomes a mom-figure to her because she is the youngest at school and has also lost her mom

Becky - the scullery maid who becomes very loyal to Sara when she shows her kindness and treats her as an equal. Later when Sara's father dies and Sara becomes a servant as well, Becky is the "prisoner next door" in their Bastille prison attic stories.

Miss Minchin - the cold hearted headmistress who only treats Sara well when she thinks she is rich

Miss Amelia - Miss Minchin's sister who obeys her and is afraid of her

Mr. Carrisford - also called the Indian gentleman, moves in next door to Miss Minchin's with his servant, Ram Dass, who has a monkey pet. The monkey escapes and Sara brings it back, thus ending Mr. Carrisford's two year search for the daughter of his friend, Captain Crewe, little Sara.
